چکیده

Abstract: An elastic stiffness matrix was derived in the case of distortion of a restrained thinwalled I-section beam using the minimum total stationary elastic energy condition (Przemieniecki J S 1968 Theory of Matrix Structural Analysis, McGraw-Hill, NY). The function describing the angle of distortion was adopted form the solution of differential equation in the case of restrained distortion. The example presented in the paper helps to assess the correctness of the proposed solution. The proposed elastic stiffness matrix is applicable for solving distortion problems of bar structures composed of thin-walled members.

ANALYTICAL STUDY OF STEEL I-BEAM WITH STEPPED FLANGES

This paper presents a parametric study of steel I- beam with stepped flanges by using finite element analysis. Stepped flange beam is used in structures to decrease the negative bending moments near interior supports that causes failure due to buckling. Steps in the cross section can be achieved by adding cover plates to the beam flanges, changing the size of the hot rolled section, or changing...

Explicit Stiffness of Tapered and Monosymmetric i Beam-Columns

A formulation for finite element analysis of tapered and  monosymmetric I shaped beam-columns is presented. This is a general way to analyze these types of complex elements. Based upon the formulation, member stiffness matrix is obtained explicitly. The element considered has seven nodal degrees of freedom. In addition, the related stability matrix is found. Numerical studies of the aforementio...

The Effect of the Slot Length on Beam Vertical Shear in I-Beams with Moment Connections

This paper evaluates the effect of slot existence with limited length between flanges and web junction of I-shaped beams at the region of moment connections on vertical force and shear stress distribution in beam flanges and web at connection section in comparison with classical theory of stress distribution. The main purpose of this research is to evaluate the efficiency of the slot in connect...

Stability Analysis of Non-Local Euler-Bernoulli Beam with Exponentially Varying Cross-Section Resting on Winkler-Pasternak Foundation

In this paper, linear stability analysis of non-prismatic beam resting on uniform Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation is carried out based on Eringen's non-local elasticity theory. In the context of small displacement, the governing differential equation and the related boundary conditions are obtained via the energy principle. It is also assumed that the width of rectangle cross-section varie...

Experimental and finite-element free vibration analysis and artificial neural network based on multi-crack diagnosis of non-uniform cross-section beam

Crack identification is a very important issue in mechanical systems, because it is a damage that if develops may cause catastrophic failure. In the first part of this research, modal analysis of a multi-cracked variable cross-section beam is done using finite element method. Then, the obtained results are validated usingthe results of experimental modal analysis tests. In the next part, a nove...
